I wonder if you, like me, recognize the crucial importance of wisdom at this point in your life and in our life together on earth. Not having been alive for either of the world’s two great wars, I get a small sense of what it might have been like in the years just before these world wars as I watch things spiralling out of control in Israel’s current war with Hamas.

I first fell in love with the mystics as an undergraduate when a friend gave me Thomas Merton’s New Seeds of Contemplation. Merton introduced me to the essential place of mystery in any engagement with the Transcendent One.

But, while adolescence might have been the last time you paid any serious attention to your identity, it has continued to evolve since then and where it has settled has crucial implications for both your psychological and spiritual wellbeing.
