Poets are wisdom teachers. But what they offer is not so much content as opportunities to experience an awakening of our hearts that can result in seeing things through new eyes. Entering into a good poem gives us glimpses of truths of existence that prose can never communicate so powerfully or succinctly. Each such moment provides a potentially ever-widening portal to the wisdom that comes from seeing through the new eyes of expanded consciousness.

Poems need to be listened to, not simply read silently. If you read them yourself, be sure to read them out loud and listen to the poem in this way. But, even better, allow someone else to read poetry to you. That is what I will be doing with poems from a variety of poets I will be reading and presenting to you here.
